Rose Hair Pins

n a recent trip to Paris I was impressed at how often French women decorate their hair with bows, jewels and pretty clips. Flowers in a girl's hair always convey a flirtatious playful spirit and carefree attitude. Next time you have a formal event that needs a touch of femininity try these floral clips for a breathtaking "je ne sais quoi".

What You'll Need:

  • Sculptey or Fimo Clay
  • Bobby pins
  • Toaster Oven
  • Toothpick

Directions:

1. Soften the clay in your palms, if you want a swirl effect, take a red and pearlescent white and soften separately, then combine together. Do not over-blend or the colors won't be defined enough and get muddy.

2. Roll out 6 small balls of clay.

3. Make one long squiggly with one of the balls and flatten it slightly. Lift one end off of the surface and roll it into a spiral like a cinnamon roll.

4. Gently attach the spiral onto the curved end of your hair pin.

5. Roll the other five balls into flattened pancakes and attach them at the bottom of the clay spirals, slightly overlapping, like real petals.

6. Pinch the petals lightly outwards either in the center of the petal, or twice on each side of the petal.

7. Push the clay on gently with your fingers at the base of the flower to firm up the structure.

8. Take the toothpick and push in between your pin legs so that your flower is not too far down the pin or else it will crack when the pin is opened.
